Dr. Francois Chin received his Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from National University of Singapore. He has been with the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR, since 1995, where he served as Department and Programme Head, leading numerous R&D teams in future broadband wireless access technologies. He is currently the Programme Head of the 5G& Beyond (5+) programme and also the Covering Department Head of the Communications & Networks department in the Institute.
Dr Chin is an active contributor to various standardisation activities/efforts, including 3GPP Long Term Evolution, IEEE 802.11ad / aj mmWave based WiFi standards, and Wireless Gigabit (WiGig) Industry Alliance. He is a co-recipient of China National Information Technology Standardization (NITS) “Outstanding Pioneering Award” 2013 & “Outstanding Development Award” 2009, Institute of Engineer (IES) Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award both 2007 & 2005.
He has over 70 technical documents in wireless communications related Standards, and over 290 papers in well-known international journals and technical conferences. He is a co-recipient of IEEE Best Conference Paper Award in IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (1999 Fall). He also holds over 30 granted patents.
