òòò½ÍøQuantum Cup 2024
The òòò½ÍøQuantum Cup by Pennylane and the A*STAR.Quantum Innovation Centre Symposium was held on the 29th - 30th August 2024. In this two-day event, Singapore's brightest students and researchers in quantum information tested their quantum programming skills by competing in time-limited challenges. The first day featured a virtual competition, providing a platform for over 100 participants from Singapore's universities to demonstrate their quantum programming skills, with the top two teams advancing to a live coding battle on the second day.
The event kicked off with an intense virtual competition on Day 1, where 34 teams, comprising 2-4 participants each, faced time-limited quantum challenges. Points were awarded for solving the problems, and the teams that completed them fastest climbed higher on the leaderboard. In total, 902 submissions were made and by the end of the day, Team Quilt and Entangled Minds had both solved all six challenges, advancing to the live finals on Day 2.
Professor Lam Ping Koy (A*STAR Chief Quantum Scientist) delivered the opening remarks for the second day and the day brought the excitement to a head as the top two teams faced off in a 70-minute head-to-head live coding battle. The competition concluded with Team Entangled Minds, representing Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Quantum Technologies, emerging as the champions. Their victory earned them a grand prize of S$3,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Toronto to spend time with the PennyLane team at Xanadu.
