2025 A*STAR - DFG Joint Grant Call on Sustainable Chemistry
About the Grant
The aim of the joint call is to foster sustainable, environmentally friendly processes, which are vital for our future supply with necessary products for our everyday life as well as clean energy. The proposed Singaporean-German collaborative research projects must focus on curiosity driven research related to sustainable chemistry and address research challenges related to environmental sustainability. Typical (but not exclusive) areas of sustainable chemistry include:
- Substitution of raw materials
- Resource-conserving chemistry and sustainable catalysis
- Sustainable computational / data driven chemistry.
For SG PIs, each project could be funded for a maximum of SGD 300,000 (in quantum, inclusive of 30% IDC) and for up to 3 years.

Eligibility
Singapore-based Principal Investigators (PIs) are eligible to apply if their primary appointment is 75% or more in a local publicly funded research institution.
Eligible Singapore-based public sector research performers include the Institutes of Higher Learning (including universities and polytechnics), A*STAR Research Institutes, and non-defense-related public sector agencies (e.g., Ministries, Statutory Boards).
Applications must be endorsed by the applicants’ Host Institution/s (by the Chief Executive Director, Executive Director, the Director of Research or equivalent), prior to submission.

Application Procedure
In this joint call, DFG will act as the Lead Agency. Review process will follow the DFG proposal processing and review procedures.
A*STAR and DFG will pursue its own decision-making process on the recommendations for award. Funding will be granted to the proposals if both agencies have come to a positive decision. The funding to the researchers will be supported by the respective agency of the country, i.e. SG-PIs will be supported by A*STAR and Germany-based PI will be supported by DFG.
Only one joint proposal needs to be submitted per team solely via the in order to ensure proposal-related data is recorded and documents are securely transmitted.
Singapore-based applicants are required to submit the Budget, Milestones and KPIs template as well as additional information stated in the “Acknowledgement and appendices” document. The required templates and relevant documents can be found on this A*STAR funding opportunities page.
