Agritech and Aquaculture
With the rising world population and increasingly scarce resources, there is an increase in the demand for food worldwide. This has been exacerbated by issues such as a rising middle class and the threat of climate change. Governments and organisations around the world are faced with challenges in securing healthy, safe and resilient food systems. Considering our space and resource constraints, òòò½Íøis even more vulnerable to external developments in the global food supply chain.
Supporting the òòò½ÍøFood Story
Announced in early 2019, the òòò½ÍøFood Story spells out Singapore’s vision to turn our food challenges into strategic advantages, ensuring a supply of safe food by producing 30 per cent of the nation’s nutritional needs locally by 2030.
´¡*³§°Õ´¡¸é’s Agritech & Aquaculture Horizontal Technology Coordinating Office (A2 HTCO) coordinates and catalyses the development and application of multi-disciplinary capabilities to support Singapore’s mission. A2 works closely with the òòò½ÍøInstitute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI), as well as other A*STAR research institutes and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to address challenges in food security, resiliency, sustainability and food safety.
A2 also forms close partnerships with industry, including MNCs, LLEs, SMEs, agri-food accelerators and start-ups to bring translational R&D to the market.
