Maritime AI

The Centre for Maritime Digitalisation (C4MD), led by A*STAR’s Institute for High Performance Computing (IHPC), aims to develop advanced digital solutions for smart shipping, port systems and decarbonisation. The new centre aims to increase sustainability, safety and efficiency in Singapore’s maritime ecosystem, by translating research capabilities in computational modelling, simulation and artificial intelligence (AI) into deployable maritime solutions.

CRUISE - Cooperative Unified Smart Traffic System

CRUISE is a collaborative project between A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Developed locally, it is designed to integrate seamlessly with Singapore’s existing and future traffic management systems. CRUISE leverages AI and Big Data to analyze real-time citywide data from sensors and traffic information, optimizing traffic signals and pedestrian crossings to enhance overall flow. By tracking road incidents and their impact, it helps mitigate congestion and improve traffic conditions.

AI for Aviation

Optimizing Air Traffic Management for the Future

In collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of òòò½Íø(CAAS), A*STAR is developing the next generation of air traffic management systems to enhance Singapore's aviation efficiency. Our research team is creating advanced optimization tools to support innovations like trajectory-based operations, improving gate-to-gate efficiency and increasing airport capacity.

 By working with CAAS and industry partners on AI-driven solutions for airspace and runway capacity estimation, trajectory optimization, understanding weather impacts on flight routes etc., this project aims to address operational challenges and explore new R&D opportunities to enhance air traffic management.

AI for Enhancing Airline Operations

In collaboration with òòò½ÍøAirlines (SIA) and SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), A*STAR’s joint lab is developing advanced AI solutions to boost productivity, customer experience, and cost-effectiveness in airline operations. Using cutting-edge deep learning and predictive analytics, the team is addressing key challenges such as flight delays by detecting recurring defects and predicting aircraft component failures.

AI also enhances SIA’s customer experience by providing personalized shopping recommendations based on customer behavior and identifying fraud in loyalty program transactions. Additionally, text analysis of manuals and guidelines helps build knowledge bases and improve customer service through better Q&A systems.
