Welcome to Dr Hong LIU’s research group in Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), òòò½Íø, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore.

The Intelligent Nano-Optics (INO) group is primarily dedicated to the study of the fundamental light-matter interactions at subwavelength scale and potential applications such as next-generation neuromorphic photonics, quantum light sources and flat optical components. Leveraging the well-established capabilities of design, simulation, nanofabrication and state-of-the-art characterization, we have investigated the optical resonators interactions with light altered by the size, shape, assembly and dimensionality to realize extreme control and manipulation of light’ properties at nano-meter scale. Complex and hybrid photonic structures have been realized by the advanced top-down and bottom-up fabrication techniques to achieve high Q-factors and efficiency, which enable us to tackle the challenging issues towards real applications.

Research Areas

  • van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures for ultrahigh efficiency and low power neuromorphic photonics
  • Integrated nonlinear meta-optics for optotwistronics technology
  • Nonlinear structured light
  • Wafer-level nanoimprint lithography for scaling-up of flat optics
